Riga Performance Festival Starptelpa 2022

15 - 19 June 2022

Art Academy of Latvia

Theme: Otherness

Otherness

The theme of the 2022 festival is "Otherness". This thematic scope offers wide interpretation opportunities and a potential of mutual overlapping and cross-fertilisation of disciplines. It opens up a question how we define the Other and where we draw the borders between ourselves and the Other. Often the Other is marginalised and excluded on the basis of stigmas and stereotypes. How we define the Other also becomes a political question entailing questions of race, ethnicity, sex and gender, sexuality, disability, socio-economic status etc. Thus, Otherness really makes us reconsider the issues of identity, especially in the light of recent boom in populism and polarisation of society.
